1password subscription service →
In addition to all the new features, the biggest benefit of a 1Password subscription is that you get all the 1Password apps for every platform, along with Pro Features, free updates, and free upgrades to every new version of 1Password.
The famous password management tool 1password adds a new subscription service. Instead of buying the app for every platform, you can spend $2.99/month to obtain all the features and apps.
Personally I don’t like too much this tendency to switch to the subscription model, and I fear we’ll see a lot of apps switching to this, expecially after the Apple announcements who elects this method as the best one (raising the developers “slice-of-cake” on revenue after some time).
For some people, buy a specific version of an app at a specific price (which is higher than the subscription price itself, but I can understand this) it’s basically a better solution than paying every month some money for the same features.
Of course, this (probably) will raise the commitment of the developers to extend the application features, but the simple fact I need (or want) an app doesn’t mean that automatically I need also the features that will be included in the next release.
Having the ability to choice it’s always a good thing, so I’m happy that AgileBites (the company behind 1password) keep both the solutions.
So, you can still download the 1Password free app from the iTunes Store and add the $9.99 In-App purchase for the Pro Features (or a license from their site for the Mac version), and skip the subscription model: its a little pricy but its a really really usefull application!
